Night Eyes 05:31
I rise with the birds these days, much earlier and it pays From a night owl to a daylight seeker, appreciator As the sun casts light and shade, from the right and cuts the haze All the early valley rays, it calls me, draws me out of night eyes But I still love, love.. The vibe when it’s getting late, that secret night opaque When your minds mysterious ways will take you over, over The consciousness it fades, in the half time sleep awake So tired my eyes all glazed and falling under, under night eyes (But I still love, love) Oh the sounds in the maze All our losing our way All the bright lights flash and blaze All the night, night time days Then I retreat from play, for a while but not to stay I’ll return to the melee in time, in sweet time Forgotten but not laid to rest my friend of age You’ll last forever more you’re with me, black and sparkle night eyes
My favourite stone has broken in two Led in a pile next to you My whitest thoughts have turned all to blue Darkened by the question I put to you Why shut me out, when I was your pillar Bastion of hope; friend on the line We had a tree, it blossomed in springtime Fruited till the frost, bowed out and lost Not as you’d wish for, but then that’s the lesson Care for it when it’s green, or say ce la vie, la la.. Friend on the line, whiter than white Brothers in arms when put out to fight Why shut me out, when I could be your pillar Bastion of hope; friend on the line You’ve got me all wrong, if I was your killer I’d hide in the long grass, but I’m by your side
Some of us have to move before we all can stand tall Standing on the shoulders of the giants that have come before Some of us have to move before we all can be talking Hit the ground and change the mindset Never have I seen so many evil eyes Put our lives in the hands of tyrants Never was one for believin’ dirty lies Bleed ‘em dry and leave ‘em none the wiser We will rise to see the day Where there’s a will there’s a way, so they say Now, come together in Tao Make a pledge, make a vow, take em down
Mainframe 05:48
Tell it to the bee’s, tell ‘em I won’t be long Tell ‘em I’m going to come and sing them a song You see someone’s getting married and someone has died alone It’s the cycle of life, it’s the way of the world Nature’s connection, it’s a cruel world if you’re a bug or made into a rug, but we got it good You and I, me and you, got good heads on our shoulders, so we can be the beholders.. Of the whole world, the whole world And everything in it, got to be in it to win it Take yourself to the next phase, expand the mainframe Travel light, pack your sins in a secure tin with a match and some lint, cause someday your gonna burn them with ten hail Marys and a bottle of gin I can’t change everything, I think I’m believing that, but I wanna keep hold of some of the younger man Not in a photo frame, but at some meeting with the exec, and I quit, and I say I’m off to see the whole world.. That’s life, and it ain’t all bad
Lavender 05:00
Baby I can’t resist your body glow, or the velvet in your eyes, telling me when to come and go Tell me why I respond to everything, though like you I am my own, am I just high on the moment or is this the way it goes I’m tailoring phrases to impress you though all I wanna say Is I’m nervous when I’m round you, the way you look that seems your aim Don’t wanna steal each waking moment, don’t have the time to spare, but then there are the times I’d like to share Caught at a sweet time in our lives, when we’re loving being single with passion in our eyes, and serious thoughts leave us And Lavenders sweet smell in the air when it suits us to be there Where do you find these super feelings from, those that rule you through and through, where you relate to others near you through a mindset made for two I couldn’t give as much of my time to the world outside I know, cause when I’m caught by that sweet thing it doesn’t let me go So it would seem while I’m resistant, I am missing out on those things that most think are loneliness healers But I am happy being one man and enjoying days like these As long as I’ve enough I’ve all I need
Happy is the day that cost one cold seasons stay Breaking summer haze Happy is the day If I describe the feeling, how it lights my world The positivity of morning when that air comes around A day when all conspiring forces are abound to bring this elation to our life on earth Happy is the day we lost, some magic found and caught Happy is the day you accompany my thoughts Happy is the time we find in peace, in awe, in love Ever wondrous ways, happy is the day
I’ve been waiting all this time Lady love has gone and caught my eye I been runnin’ over in my mind All the faces, all the signs It must show every day, ah the silliest smile I wear right now I just glow like an angel every time I see you around I’d be made up as a little lamb with a skip in my step If this state of mind I’m feeling now says anything there’s no doubt that I.. Must be in love, oh I must be in love, oh I think that I’m in love again Someone new just like the dawn of the day High like the cirrus, beautiful and true Is it someone like you? But how’d I get to be with you? It would be a brighter landscape Is it someone else’s dream, something out of reach of me But I feel like I’ve seen it in the flicker of her I’d be made up as a little lamb at the birth of new spring If she’d only recognise I’m head over heels, I know now that I.. Must be in love.. So it seems I’m walking down that road again I want you now until the end I know you better now by far In you I’ve found my one, my star
Make a time for the ones you love, just of late I’ve heard them say Tell him when we see him next he can stay for the whole day Your snatching time you see, and your offending regularly Is it that you, you like me are busy in life and don’t seem to see the precious people who’ll save you when your stuck in the seams, cause you might be in need of a light to lead you Tell a tale to the ones you love, you should share your life joy, as your fortunate will change its course at some point you will need to employ.. All compassionate eyes and ears, for your never stronger alone. And how ever many answers you find, it’s support that’ll bring you home
One such moment changes all of it Pearls and diamonds couldn’t pay for it Making moments, taking chance of it Clear as crystal You can go miles and miles just to meet in the middle You can go miles and miles just to make a good start Airborne moments, breathing life to it Hard of hearing, so busy thinking Time in motion, but I’m still not blooming So help me go again and I’ll do the hard.. Miles and miles just to meet in the middle You can go miles and miles just to make a good start
This Sun 04:01
Seven days of a year pass all too soon. For me living ours out in lands of reddened sunsets is a dream I would like to sleep on, in dull days it lights me, the scenes of heavenly.. Saints in stony chariots alive in this sun, where all around you catches the eye, in this sun Why do we remain, all we ever work for’s away in the bright azures of sea views, a scene change from the dull blues Such philosophy engrained into our minds cannot be wise and I put to you a question of live to work, or work to live and take a chance with the.. Saints in stony chariots alive in this sun, where all around you catches the eye, in this sun It’s a place where all your dreams can come to life, and a sure fire way to lift your spirits to heights, in this sun Go discover the hill top, white washed places in valleys of far off nations Days come easy, no rat race, simple living is all and it feels like heaven

Five years have passed since Pete Josef’s debut album “Colour” caused a sensation worldwide amongst music lovers and critics alike. Since then, it’s hardly surprising that his steadily increasing fanbase have been awaiting its follow up impatiently. “I Rise With The Birds” will be released in October on Sonar Kollektiv and one can say without doubt that the wait was worth it. The album’s ten tracks offer gold until the last note of music, and an hour of food for thought about life’s ups and downs.

The blue-eyed soul singer from Bristol has come to be a well-respected multi-instrumentalist and producer over the years merging jazz, soul, pop, and electronic music and collaborating with Manu Delago, Rag’n’Bone Man and Roni Size among others.

Taking all of the production reins himself, he brings in long-time Bristol collaborators John Pratt and Ben Plocki (saxes), Nick Malcolm and Gary Alesbrook (trumpets), Rory Francis and Justin Fellows (drums, percussion), Roshan ‘Tosh’ Wijetunge (double bass), Luke ‘Typesun’ Harney (drums) and of course the voice of honey that so compliments Josef’s vocal on ‘Colour’ and beyond, Marie Lister.
Most featured perhaps are Barney Sage (drum kit); the rhythmic backbone behind six of the ten tracks, and the virtuosic Austrian string players that provide so many highlights throughout; Bernie Mallinger (Violin, Viola) and Clemens Sainitzer (Cello). Notable contributions also come from new-found musical inspirations, Blythe Peppino (vocals), Bill Banwell (bass) and Miguel Andrews (drums). The result is a work of utterly beautiful, layered compositions with lush orchestral arrangements, subtle electronic textures and heartfelt performances.

There is a broad and grand sense of scale to these songs, but they never lose the intimacy or devotion we’ve come to expect from Pete Josef.

On the album’s creation, Pete explains: „This is an album about reconciliation, connection, and space and balance in life. I‘ve had a long and deep attachment to music, you might even say music has defined me. So a few years ago when I started to lose my way with it, I found it disorientting. I felt like I lost some of my soul.
I stopped even listening to music, and so I put my energy into other things - I built stuff, I started a family and made a home, and I learned a lot about other things. And it was nice, healthy even, so intense is the art of music making. Happily, I rekindled my love, in a big part through making this album...and it has been a complete joy. I have travelled to record some very special musicians in the natural beauty of Carinthia, southern Austria, and I returned home to make music with some of my closest friends. I have loved once again being the artist, and
playing engineer, performer, producer and arranger. This album has been my gift to myself at the dawn of a new chapter. I hope you will receive it as a gift too. So here‘s to reinvention, and fin- ding love again.“

Throughout “I Rise With The Birds” placid and the jaunty moments balance each other perfectly. Launching with “Night Eyes”, the opener provides a wake-up call following a long night. With his most accomplished piece of work to date, Pete’s pedigree as a singer-songwriter comes into full bloom, with songs like “Friend On The Line”, “Lavender” or the bittersweet “Snatching Time”. On tracks such as the beautifully melodic “This Sun” Pete‘s soft vocals flowing effortlessly over a soulful river of sound, a perfect track for hazy summer evenings. Constantly shifting the dynamics, dancefloor ready tracks like “Mainframe” (co-written by Alex Barck from Jazzanova and Sebastian Damerius) or “Giants” show the versatility on display with this incredible album.
